Permanent Prince Albert shelter unlikely before winter
Prince Albert will likely head into another winter without a permanent homeless shelter, despite progress toward a new facility near the Exhibition Grounds.
Mayor Bill Powalinsky told paNOW negotiations between the city and the provincial government are moving forward, but the remaining steps mean a new building will not be ready before winter.
That also means temporary shelter arrangements will likely continue while the permanent facility moves through the approval and construction process.
“So, at the moment, we’re anticipating maybe as early as a month, we’ll have everything lined up for agreements and signing and land transfers and all that sort of good stuff,” he said July 22.
