Reopening date for Little Red River Park still uncertain

May 19, 2026 | 1:09 PM

Much to the disappointment of residents in the Prince Albert area, Little Red River Park remains closed, and there has been no timeline provided for a re-opening date.

Out of concern for flooding and high flow rates, the popular destination for families and outdoor enthusiasts was closed on May 8. Confirming crews will be at the park on Tuesday to further assess the situation, Fire Chief Kris Olson encouraged residents to be patient.

“I’m sure people are itching to have the park open, but we want to ensure that everybody’s experience there will be safe and there is no risk of flooding,” he said.

As per last Thursday’s update from the Water Security Agency, the water level at Anglin Lake was at 515.61m and rising; and the full supply limit (F.S.L) for the reservoir is 515.42m.

To address continued high inflows and lessen the rate of rise, WSA conducted an operation, increasing outflows from 12 cubic metres per second (m3/s) to 15 m3/s.

The sustained flows were expected to result in out-of-bank flooding along portions of the Spruce and Little Red River system.

Olson said the water seems to be holding in the banks, but there are signs of soil erosion.

paNOW has reached out to the city for further comment.
