Raiders continue playoffs chase as they welcome Regina

After the Raiders went 0-1-2-0 (W-L-OTL-SOL) in their last three games, they now sit just s single point away from clinching a playoff spot on Tuesday night. They welcome the last team they beat, the Regina Pats.

In that last matchup, the Raiders won in a 3-0 shutout on February 22. In the other six matches, the Raiders won four of those games including a shootout, and the Pats have won twice, once in overtime at the start of the year, and another shootout win back in early November.

The Raiders have dropped their last three games in a row, most recently a 4-3 overtime loss in Swift Current on Saturday, a 5-4 loss to Edmonton on Friday at home, and another overtime loss to Lethbridge on Wednesday 2-1. The Raiders had wins in the two games prior, 3-0 over Regina, and 4-1 over Moose Jaw.

As for the Pats, they have lost their last three games in a row all at home, 5-1 to Lethbridge, 2-0 to Medicine Hat, and that 3-0 loss to Prince Albert. Before that, the Pats had a 4-1 win over Swift Current that broke up a six game losing streak, meaning the Pats have lost nine of their last ten games.

Looking at the standings, the Raiders are still the top team in the East Division and second in the Conference, just a point ahead of Brandon, with a record of 33-20-5-1 on the year. The Pats on the other hand are second last in both Division and Conference with a record of 15-37-5-2.

Looking at goal scoring, the Raiders have potted 225 goals this year, good for an average of just over 3.8 goals per game, and 203 goals against for a differential of +21.

The Pats have scored 148 goals this season with 241 goals against, meaning they’ve allowed 93 more goals than they’ve scored. They’re averaging just barely over 2.5 goals per game.

On special teams, the Raiders powerplay went 3/8 in two games on the weekend, keeping them as the second ranked powerplay in the league at 28.6 per cent. On the penalty kill, the Raiders gave up four goals on 11 opportunities, but they finally climbed a spot in the standings to the 19th ranked penalty kill in the league at 73.3 per cent.

The Pats specials teams are two of the lowest ranked in the league. Their powerplay is third last in the league at 16.2 per cent, and their penalty kill is second last in the league at 72.9 per cent.

For scoring, the Raiders are lead by Tomas Mrsic who sits tenth in the league with 32G-51A-83P. Aiden Oiring sits second with 23G-51A-74P to tie him for 18th in league scoring, and Lukas Dragicevic is third in Raider scoring and tied for second amongst all league defencemen with 16G-50A-66P.

As for scoring streaks, the Raiders are lead by Riley Boychuk who’s got 1G-2A in his last three games. Also with points in the last two games are Dragicevic (2G-1A), Mrsic (0G-3A), Brayden Dube (1G-1A), Niall Crocker (0G-2A), and Ty Meunier (0G-1A).

For the Pats, the two players they acquired from Everett Silvertips lead their scoring with Julien Maze at 10G-28A-38P and Caden Brown at 16G-15A-31P. In third is former Prince George Cougars defencman Ephram McNutt with 4G-21A-25P.

The Pats don’t have a single active point streak after only scoring one goal in their last three games.

As for the goaltending battle, Max Hildebrand still sits at the top of the save percentage standings with a 0.917 to his name and a record of 28-13-5-1 on the year, along with three shutouts including the most recent win over Regina. Dimitri Fortin has been backing up, he’s sitting at 0.886 for save percentage and 6-7-0-1 on the season.

As for the Pats, Kelton Pyne has lead the way with a 12-19-4-2 record and a 0.888 save percentage. Ewan Huet was in net against the Raiders during the last matchup, his record sits at 3-16-1-0 on the year with a 0.883 save percentage.
