A busy start to the second half of the season for the Prince Albert Raiders continued on Wednesday when the Raiders played their fourth game in six days in Saskatoon. After losing at home on Monday, the Raiders went into Wednesday’s rematch with a consistent and disciplined game plan to win 6-3 over the Blades.

Tomas Mrsic opened the scoring for the Raiders at 6:51 on the rush. Aiden Oiring started the play with an exit pass out of the Raiders zone to Brayden Dube, and he put a hard shot on goal that handcuffed the goaltender as the rebound popped out to a streaking Mrsic. He then bounced the rebound in for Mrsic’s 21st of the year.

At the 12:40 mark, the Raiders extended the lead on their first powerplay of the game. Oiring set up a Lukas Dragicevic onetimer, and his shot was stopped, but Dube on the doorstep put the puck in for his 17th of the year.

After 1: Raiders 2 – 0 Blades, shots 15-13 Blades

Aiden Oiring continued to grow the Raiders lead in the second period at the 5:27 mark, and this one came out of nowhere. After Mrsic helped hold the puck in on the right wall and sent the puck towards the slot for Oiring. He was surrounded, so Oiring managed to turn and fire a laser beam over the shoulder of the Blades goaltender for his 14th of the season.

At 9:58, Dayce Derkatch and Niall Crocker went to work on the forecheck, Derkatch poked the puck to the left of the goaltender for Crocker, and he sent a great backhand pass to the slot for a streaking Riley Boychuk. He onetimed it off one post, into the back of the net, and back out off the other post for his fourth of the season.

The Raiders then made it 5-0 at the 11:42, and it was Oiring again. This time he picked up assists from Daxon Rudolph and Ben Harvey, the latter’s first point as a Raider, as Oiring brought the puck in on the right wall and made a nice move into the middle. From the top of the slot, Oiring picked his spot and ripped home a wrist shot for his second of the game and his fifteenth of the year.

The Blades switched goaltenders after going down 5-0, and they responded about a minute and a half later. Blades carried the puck into the zone and both Rowan Calvert and Zach Olsen both got chances, but it was Cooper Williams who cleaned up the rebound to get the Blades on the board.

Just 30 seconds later, the Blades found another goal. This time it was a tic tac toe play on the rush that ended with Ben Riche tipping the puck into the back of the net.

After 2: Raiders 5 – 2 Blades, shots 14-11 Raiders, 27-26 Raiders overall

The Raiders shut things down in the third period, giving up their only penalty of the game halfway through and killing it off. On the night, the Raiders powerplay went 1/2.

The Blades did score with the goalie pulled at 19:27 when Ben Riche found a rebound in front and put it home, but the comeback died there. At 19:51, Crocker potted the empty netter for the Raiders to put a bow on a great bounce back win.

FINAL: Raiders 6 – 3 Blades, shots 11-5 Blades, 37-32 Blades overall

The Raiders had a great 60 minute effort in this game, and it again jumps them up into a tie with the Brandon Wheat Kings in fifth in the Eastern Conference.

The Raiders next action sees them travel to Moose Jaw on Friday against the Warriors, and then back home on Saturday against the Brandon Wheat Kings.
