Zablocki scores once in opening-day loss at Esso Cup

Apr 22, 2024 | 6:22 AM

A Prince Albert hockey player and her team had quite the start to the 2024 Esso Cup in Vernon, B.C.

Stryker Zablocki had one goal as the Regina Avana Rebels went goal-for-goal with the North York Storm. Eventually, the Storm won the game 7-6 in overtime.

Sydney Bowness had a hat-trick in that game including the OT winner.

The Rebels held a 4-1 lead very early in the second period before the Storm pushed their way back into the game with four straight goals to take a 5-4 lead.

The Rebels would change goaltenders before the start of the third period, which seemed to provide a spark. They would score two goals by the 11-minute mark of the third frame to go up 6-5. Before long though, the Storm tied the game on the power play a few minutes later before clinching the win in OT.

Zablocki and the Rebels hope for a quick rebound as they play the Intrépide de l’Outaouais from Quebec at noon CST Tuesday.
