Raiders shut out in Saskatoon as regular season winds down

The Prince Albert Raiders didn’t really have an answer for the Saskatoon Blades this weekend.

After losing 5-1 to their arch-rivals on home ice on Friday night, it was more of the same Saturday as the Raiders lost 5-0 in Saskatoon as the two teams wrapped up a home-and-home series to conclude the regular season.

Despite the setbacks the Raiders still managed to sneak into the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, setting up a first round showdown with the Blades which begins with Game 1 on Thursday night in the Bridge City.

Game 2 will be on Friday night in Saskatoon before the series shifts back to Prince Albert the following week for Games 3 and 4.

Saturday was a milestone night for the Blades as captain Trevor Wong recorded his 100th point of the season and sniper Egor Sidorov scored his 50th goal of the year in the final minute of the third period.

The Raiders created offence but couldn’t find a way to beat Blades goaltender Evan Gardner, who made 27 saves for the shutout.

Prince Albert finishes the regular season one game below .500 at 31-32-2-3 while Saskatoon finishes at 50-13-2-3.
