Grieving mother calls for answers in daughter’s death

Mar 14, 2024 | 6:16 PM

More than five months after her daughter was murdered in Prince Albert, Bev Laurin feels she is no closer to getting any answers.

On the afternoon of Oct. 6., police were called to a residence in the 300 Block of 13th St. E. for a weapons complaint. Nicole Laurin, 37, was found suffering from serious injuries and later died at Victoria Hospital.

Noting a lack of answers and follow up from police since the incident, Bev says she is worried the case is getting swept under the rug.

“They just said she got stabbed two or three times and I said which is it,” she said.

At the time of the incident, a second victim, a 31-year-old woman, was driven to hospital by an acquaintance and was also suffering from serious injuries stemming from the same incident. There has been no further information provided with respect to her condition and Bev also indicated she had not heard anything more about the other woman.

Bev noted the last time she saw her daughter was last summer when Nicole had come home to Sandy Bay to see her family. She was recovering from a separate stabbing in Saskatoon and had suffered a sprained ankle after jumping from the second floor of an apartment building.

“As soon as she got better she went back to Prince Albert and next thing I know this happened,” Bev explained, confirming her fear the incident was gang related.

Bev also acknowledged her daughter had previously expressed fear someone was coming to kill her.

Nicole Laurin had three children but was not living with them. The funeral service was held last October at Sandy Bay.

Going forward, Bev said she is hopeful someone with information will either contact Prince Albert police or Crime Stoppers.
