Habitat For Humanity announces next P.A. build

Feb 26, 2024 | 12:16 PM

One Prince Albert family will move into a new, 1,100 square foot home this year thanks to Habitat for Humanity, which will build the home with financial assistance from the Governments of Canada, Saskatchewan and the city.

The new home is expected to be finished and move-in ready this summer.

“As we break ground on a new home in Prince Albert, we are not just turning soil, or in this case, snow; we are turning dreams into reality,” said Habitat Sask. Interim Director Kelsey Stewart.

“This event symbolizes our unwavering commitment to building hope, homes and communities.”

The funding will come from multiple sources, including a $65,000 grant from the National Housing Strategy, funneled through the Sask. Priorities agreement and another $15,000 from the city once the home is complete.

The new home will be a five-bedroom construction with a finished basement.

Habitat for Humanity has built over 200 homes in 14 communities in Saskatchewan since 2009.

The plan works by paying for the new homes for families with moderate incomes through some grants and a mortgage held by Habitat, which charges no interest.

Successful families pay for their down payment through labour on the home they will live in.

The last Habitat home in Prince Albert was built in 2023.
