Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan is building its first home in over a year in Prince Albert.

The non-profit has been up and running since January 2021, after the Prince Albert, Saskatoon, and Regina branches merged, with most of the work being happening behind the scenes.

Gary Gurtler, Director of ReStores and the Prince Albert region, told paNOW they’re happy to once again do what they’re best at, building homes for families in need of help.

This home will be able to accommodate a large family as there’s the possibility of creating as many as five bedrooms.

“The basement is well underway, and we hope the house will be finished by next summer with the family moving in shortly thereafter,” said Gurtler.

The home is being built on 6th Ave. West.

This build will also mark Habitat for Humanity’s 31st in P.A. In total, they’ve built 193 homes across the province.

“It’s kind of nice that (the new build) is in Prince Albert out of the three major centres,” said Gurtler.

People interested in living in the home have until Nov. 5 to fill out Habitat for Humanity’s eligibility quiz. Everyone who qualifies will then have until Nov. 30 to apply.

“We looking for families, not just for this build, but future builds as well,” said Gurtler.

More information, including how to take the quiz and apply for the home, can be found on the organization’s website.
