Raiders fall to Warriors in final meeting of regular season

Feb 3, 2024 | 8:26 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders closed out their season series against the Moose Jaw Warriors with a 3-1 loss on Friday night at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

The loss comes after P.A. downed the Red Deer Rebels at home 4-3 in a shootout on Wednesday night. The loss also means Moose Jaw wins the season series against the Raiders, winning six games to two.

Entering the third period with Prince Albert down 1-0, Harrison Lodewyk managed to pot one short handed midway through the frame to tie it up. That was before the Warriors would go on to strike twice later in the period and 24 seconds apart to topple the Raiders 3-1.

Along with Lodewyk, Eric Johnston and Turner McMillen were the other to find the scoresheet in the contest with one assist each.

Jagger Firkus, Atley Calvert, and Lynden Lakovic were the goal scorers for Moose Jaw while Brayden Yager, Denton Mateychuk, Brayden Schuurman, Rilen Kovacevic, and Ethan Semeniuk collected the helpers in the game.

Nathan Preston got the start in goal for P.A., making 31 saves and earning the game’s third star as the Raiders fall to 21-24-1-3 on the campaign.

In the opposite net for the Warriors was Jackson Unger who turned aside 27 shots to help Moose Jaw improve to 29-16-0-2 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Following a scoreless opening period, the Warriors found themselves ahead by one after the second. While on the man-advantage, Firkus managed to find twine off of a one timer for his 38th of the season giving Moose Jaw the single goal lead.

They carried the lead into the third when midway through the period, the Raiders got on the board short handed. Unger went behind the net to play the puck and got stripped by Lodewyk, who managed to bury the wraparound to pull P.A. back to even.

Shortly after though, the Warriors found some momentum and struck twice. Calvert scored off the rush to put Moose Jaw back in front before Lakovic scored 24 seconds later to double the lead.

In a last-ditch effort, the Raiders emptied the net for the extra man but could not convert as the Warriors doubled up Prince Albert 3-1.

The Raiders are back on home ice on Saturday night when they welcome the Medicine Hat Tigers to the Art Hauser Centre for the first time this season. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.
