Raiders make pit stop in Lethbridge ahead of U.S. swing

Nov 8, 2023 | 11:27 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders (9-8-0-1) have embarked on their U.S. Division road trip but before they can cross the border, the Green and Gold are making a quick stop in Lethbridge to take on the Hurricanes (9-7-2-0) to kick off the seven-game road trip.

Wednesday’s game is the first of four meetings between the two clubs this season with the next contest not happening until February 7 at the Art Hauser Centre.

Having won the season series 3-1 last year, Lethbridge enters the game following a loss in their last contest which was a 3-1 decision against the Portland Winterhawks with Kooper Gizowski netting the lone goal for the Hurricanes. In their last five games, Lethbridge is 2-3 with wins against Medicine Hat and Seattle.

Prince Albert comes into the contest with back-to-back losses on the schedule, including a 7-2 defeat on Thursday to Saskatoon and a 5-0 loss to Prince George on Saturday. Like Lethbridge, the Raiders are 2-3 in their last five games with triumphs over Swift Current and Regina.

Following tonight’s matchup, Prince Albert will head south to the U.S. for the first time since October 2019 when they visit the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena to take on the Spokane Chiefs on Friday night.

Who to Watch

Forward Ryder Ritchie leads the Raiders in the points department so far this season, netting 21 points (10g, 11a) in 18 appearances. The Kelowna product will be looking to get a monkey off his back against the Hurricanes as he has yet to net a point against Lethbridge, missing out on the scoresheet in three career games. Wednesday’s game will also mark a WHL milestone for the 17-year-old as the contest is his 80th career game.

Veteran Sloan Stanick sits two points (5g, 14a) behind Ritchie for the team leader in points as he looks to build on an impressive start to his overage season. In 12 career games against the Hurricanes, the pride of Rapid City, Man. has eight points (4g, 4a). The 20-year-old is also nearing a couple of notable milestones in his WHL career as he sits eight points shy of 150 career points while tonight also marks game number 225.
