Oct 10, 2023 | 10:56 AM

A veteran sniper and returning goaltender headline this week’s best players in the SJHL.

The league announced its Player of the Week honours on Monday with Ice Wolves-forward Jacob Cossette nabbing the Saskatchewan Player of the Week Award.

The Air Ronge player had two goals and four assists for the La Ronge Ice Wolves who played four games in five nights last week.

The Wolves started the week on Oct. 3 with a 6-2 loss to the Humboldt Broncos and followed that up with a 4-2 win over the Terriers the next day. However, that was the only regulation win the team could muster as they fell in overtime on Friday to Melville and lost 2-1 to Yorkton to wrap up the week on Oct. 7.

Between the pipes, Justin Maric had an impressive season debut with the North Stars, earning him the Sasktel Goalie of the Week award.

Maric returned to the North Stars lineup after spending time with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL and had a 36-save shutout against the Nipawin Hawks on Oct.6. Despite losing the next game against the Hawks 3-1, Maric had 27 saves. He finished the weekend with a 1.52 GAA and .955 SV%.

A member of the Humboldt Broncos was also honoured for his performance last week as the Super U Defenceman of the Week.

Connor Thue, who was named Rookie of the Week in week one, had two goals and a three-assist game last Tuesday in that 6-2 win over La Ronge. He is currently ranked 4th among SJHL defencemen in scoring with seven points.

Justin Lies of the Flin Flon Bombers was named SGEU MVP of the Week & Bourgault Forward of the Week while Klippers defenceman Austin Osiowy was named DirectWest Rookie of the Week.
