JUSTICE FOR JUSTIN

Family of man killed on Highway 2 walk hours to P.A. calling for justice

Just minutes before family and friends began a walk in memory of Justin Mirasty, an eagle flew over the intersection where he was killed two years ago.

The family was awestruck by the site, calling it a sign from God and that Justin was watching over them.

The walk started near Highway 2 at the turnoff to Wahpeton Dakota Nation. It was around that spot that Mirasty was struck and killed in a hit-and-run.

According to RCMP on the day of the incident, an orange SUV that was reported to police fled the scene before officers arrived and a second vehicle involved stopped and remained at the scene.

Speaking to paNOW before the walk, Justin’s father David Mirasty said it’s been a hard couple of years for his family.

“I miss my son every day. He’s the first thing I think about almost every morning. I really need some closure,” he said. “He was such a good kid too. He was always very happy.”

Justin’s sister Taylor was also at the walk and was overwhelmed with the number of people who came out to support.

“We have more than just one relative that has passed away on this highway so it means a lot,” she said. “I just would like people to continue moving forward.”

Walkers trekked more than eight kilometres from the intersection to the Provincial Court building in Prince Albert, where they successfully arrived hours later.
