New Battleford CAO shares why he’s excited to start work

The new CAO for the Town of Battleford said he’s ready for the next chapter in his career and is happy to be working in his home community.

Landon Chambers started the new role on Sept. 1 after serving as the CAO of the Resort Village of Cochin since 2021.

Chambers was born and raised in North Battleford and graduated from North Battleford Comprehensive High School in 2000. He spent many years in Alberta but returned to northwest Saskatchewan to advance his career as an administrator.

In speaking to battlefordsNOW, Chambers recalled the many years he spent at his parent’s cabin in the RM of Meota, and believed working in Cochin was like a homecoming of sorts.

“It was a good learning experience. It was nice to be able to contribute meaningly to a community that I grew up in,” he said. “Similar to the Town of Battleford, it was kind of a full circle opportunity. Always nice to be on the front-line implementing council’s strategic plan.”

He said so far, the transition to Battleford has been a smooth one and is already praising the staff that he will work with in the coming days and months.

“It’s kind of the right step in my career and the opportunity presented itself so I put my name forward and was lucky enough to be the successful candidate,” he said. “Cochin was a great experience and I look forward to using that knowledge and experience with the Town of Battleford.”

Chambers takes over the CAO position, which has been vacant since April when former CAO Ash Alam did not return from a temporary leave of absence for a family matter. His position was terminated in June.

Alam is a suspect in an international homicide investigation into the death of Canadian expatriate Afroza Begum. Currently, there’s no update on his whereabouts.
