51-year-old charged after machete incident at James Smith Cree Nation

Saskatchewan RCMP have said a man armed with a machete was threatening a number of people, including his local community’s security officers.

This happened Sunday morning at James Smith Cree Nation.

When officers arrived, the suspect was found outside a house and informed he was under arrest.

He did not comply and responded by assaulting one of the responding officers.

Officers then deployed a conducted energy weapon and the man was safely taken into custody without injury

The assaulted police officer had minor injuries.

Clarke Anderson, 51, from James Smith Cree Nation is facing a number of charges including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault on a police officer, and uttering threats.

He’s also facing five counts of failing to comply with a release order condition.

Melfort RCMP thanked James Smith Cree Nation security for their assistance in this investigation and continued partnership as it was the security officers who initially responded and secured the area until police arrived.
