COMMUNITY GRANTS

P.A. schools and non-profits benefit from provincial grant funding

Jun 14, 2023 | 11:11 AM

Several schools and non-profit groups are getting a helping hand thanks to thousands of dollars in grants from the Community Initiatives Fund (CIF).

The CIF is a special-purpose fund created by the Government of Saskatchewan.

It receives a portion of the net revenues from casinos Regina and Moose Jaw via the Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation and redistributes them to organizations across the province.

This year, the CIF is handing out $4.5 million to support 353 projects in Saskatchewan, 13 of those projects are in Prince Albert.

The biggest recipient will be Princess Margaret School which will be given almost $30,000 for the after-school and nutrition program.

Among the recipients are Hope’s Home, W.J. Berezowsky School, and Riverside School which will each be given $25,000. The schools will use the money for their after-school lunch and nutrition programs while Hope’s Home will use the funds for Early Learning and Childcare therapies.

About $20,000 will be given to PACI for its nutrition program and the Saskatchewan Conservation Learning Centre will have the same amount for its Growing Together Program.

Princess Margaret School received the largest of the local grants, nearly $30,000 for its nutrition program.

“The range of programs, organizations, and communities supported by the CIF is truly inspiring,” shared Tracey Mann, Executive Director of the Community Initiatives Fund. “The projects supported reflect the contribution of community-based organizations across Saskatchewan who ensure that individuals have access to services, supports, and programming designed to improve their wellbeing.”
