PRINCE ALBERT, SK – For the second year in a row, the Pacific’s Fraser Valley Rush are headed to the Esso Cup final after blanking the Regina Rebels 1-0 in the semi-finals.

Vienna Rubin had the lone goal in the contest for the Rush, while Solana Cooper and Gillian Lapierre collected the helpers on the play.

Hannah Tresek had 27 saves for the Rebels, while Rebecca Noble stopped all 32 shots she faced for the shutout victory.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

Fast forward to the second period where the score is still knotted at zero.

Midway through the frame, an odd man rush for Fraser Valley end with the puck in the back of the net. However, a hand pass was called by the official and the goal was called back, so on we played with goose eggs still on the board.

Later, the best chance of the period came for the Rebels when Henderson sprung herself on a breakaway, but hit the post and the puck stayed out.

Into the dying minute of the second and Regina was caught with the long change. The Rush kept the pressure on and the work paid off. Cooper connected with Rubin in tight who tipped the puck past Tresek to break the deadlock and head into the third period up by one.

The Rebels continued to have chances into the later stages of the third, including a powerplay with less than two minutes to go. Regina pulled the goalie to make it 6-on-4, but some big blocks and deep clears helped run the clock down for the Rush where they advanced to their second consecutive Esso Cup final, 1-0.

The bronze medal matchup between the Rebels and the Northern Selects gets underway at 12:00pm while Fraser Valley and the Stoney Creek Sabres will play for gold with puck drop at 4 p.m.
