Guilty pleas entered by man who caused ex-partner to crash into power pole

The man responsible for causing a city-wide power outage has changed his pleas from not guilty to guilty.

Timothy Iron was scheduled to face trial Monday afternoon at Prince Albert Provincial Court, and the Crown did have three witnesses ready.

However, Iron’s lawyer Michael Nolin instead entered guilty pleas to two counts of mischief, as well as one count of uttering threats.

Sentencing will take place on Thursday afternoon.

The case dates back to November, 2022, and following the incident the woman who had been behind the wheel of the truck that crashed into the power pole on River St. W., shared her story with paNOW.

The woman explained she picked up the accused from the hospital and handed him their divorce papers.

“He was like ‘I’ll just kill us both’ and that’s when he grabbed the steering wheel,” she said.

The truck veered sharply to the right and slammed into the power pole, resulting in power being knocked out to the entire city.

Iron’s mischief charges related to interference with property and causing someone harm; as well as damage to the power pole. The value of the power pole and the truck were both over $5,000.

In addition to those charges, Iron also has a number of others from previous matters involving the same victim. These include assault, unlawfully being in a dwelling, and robbery. Guilty pleas have been entered on those charges as well.

The woman claimed issues with her ex had been ongoing for almost a year and despite all her attempts to get help, Iron continued to get released and come after her.

On the day of the crash, it was Iron who was transported to hospital with injuries. The woman was also arrested on suspicion of being impaired but was later released without charges.

Iron had initially entered not guilty pleas last January.
