‘I’ll just kill us both’: woman speaks out after truck hits power pole

Nov 22, 2022 | 2:00 PM

The woman behind the steering wheel of the truck that collided with a power pole in Prince Albert last weekend alleges the man riding in the passenger seat had threatened to kill them both.

The woman, whose name paNOW has agreed not to publish, was in the public gallery Tuesday morning at Prince Albert Provincial Court when Timothy Iron’s matters were addressed.

In relation to the incident Saturday, Iron is charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm, wilful damage, and a breach of court-ordered release conditions.

The woman said the incident occurred after she picked up the accused from the hospital, and handed him their divorce papers.

“He was like ‘I’ll just kill us both’ and that’s when he grabbed the steering wheel,” she said.

The truck veered sharply to the right and slammed into the power pole, resulting in power being knocked out to the entire city.

In addition to the charges from Saturday, Iron also faces a number of charges in relation to separate previous matters including assault, unlawfully being in a dwelling, and robbery. He’s also facing a total of six charges related to breach of conditions.

The woman alleges issues with her ex have been ongoing for almost a year and despite all her attempts to get help, Iron continues to get released and comes after her.

“It will be to the point to where I’d be phoning 9-1-1 every other day and it was taking them half an hour to an hour to respond,” she said.

Acknowledging there is a no-contact order in place, the woman said she knows some people will judge her but added it’s just easier, out of fear, to listen.

“Sometimes it’s just easier to play nice, have it be kinda civil and just listen to him, so nobody gets hurt because they’re not responding,” she said.

On the day of the crash, it was Iron who was transported to hospital with injuries. The woman said she was arrested as officers were suspicious of impaired driving. She said she was released without charges.

The woman’s allegations have not been tested before the courts.

Iron’s matters were adjourned to Friday.
