Donation has personal resonance for local business owner

A decision to support Hope’s Home via a donation to a local mountain climber’s fundraiser has a very personal connection for Shelly Gordon of 6th Avenue Car Wash & Auto Glass.

Gordon’s niece lived at Hope’s Home for part of her 15 years of life.

“Hope’s Home is one that was near and dear to my heart,” said Gordon. “My niece was lucky to be a resident in Saskatoon.”

That personal connection along with knowing Bernadette Lavoie and her plan to climb Mount Kilimanjaro made it easy for Gordon when she was looking to give some of the money she raises through her business.

“Two hundred stone chips have contributed to this donation,” said Gordon.

Lavoie has been planning and training to climb Kilimanjaro in Africa for months and thought it would be good to fundraise for a good cause at the same time.

The donation from Sixth Avenue Car wash has put the fundraiser at around $15,000, giving them another $4000 to raise before Lavoie starts her climb on January 16.
