Raiders salvage single point in OT loss to Pats

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – Tanner Brown played the roll of overtime hero for the Pats on Friday night, lifting Regina to a 4-3 win at the Art Hauser Centre.

The loss comes three days after falling to the Saskatoon Blades 3-1 on the road.

“Our penalty kill had to be better in the first period,” said Raiders head coach Jeff Truitt. “We didn’t generate much in the first from momentum or anything like that, in the second and third I thought we were real good. Coming back from 3-0 is never easy but we did it, we would’ve liked to get that extra point.”

Regina scored all their regulation goals in the opening twenty minutes with Easton Armstrong, Borya Valis, and Alexander Suzdalev being the goal getters. Tanner Brown added the dagger for the Pats in extras while also recording two assists in the game. Along with Brown, Armstrong and Suzdalev also had assists in the game while Luke Bateman and Layton Feist each had one of their own.

Carson Latimer, Landon Kosior, and Gabe Ludwig each found twine for the Raiders in the game while Latimer, Harrison Lodewyk, Sloan Stanick, and Ryder Ritchie each had helpers.

Drew Sim made 41 stops to collect the win and to help Regina improve to 18-16-1-1 on the year.

Max Hildebrand 25 save for the Raiders in the contest where PA falls to 11-20-3-0 on the campaign.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The Pats proved that they don’t need Connor Bedard to produce offence by hanging a trio of goals on the Raiders in the opening frame. Armstrong got the party started seven minutes off the rush before the Pats powerplay went to work later in the period with Valis and Suzdalev both scoring just two minutes apart to give Regina a 3-0 lead going into the second.

Regina carried that lead through the second and into the third where the Raiders hard work finally paid off. Lodewyk picked up the loose puck in the neutral zone and carried it into the Pats where he fed Latimer with a one timer in the slot to net his tenth of the year to cut into Regina’s lead.

Just a few minutes later and PA struck again. This time it was the powerplay who found the back of the net with Kosior scoring from the point to pull the Raiders to within one.

And with less than five to go, the Raiders tied it. Latimer was looping behind the Pats net when a defender knocked the puck off his stick and off the back of the net. The bouncing puck fooled Sim where Ludwig then picked up the puck and wrapped it into the empty cage make it three all.

A winner couldn’t be decided in regulation so to extras it went.

Regina surrendered a penalty in the opening second of overtime to give the Raiders the 4-on-3 man-advantage. But the Raiders couldn’t get it don’t with the extra man and allowed Regina to get back even before Brown buried the game winner for the Pats with less than 90 seconds to go.

The Raiders will now prepare for a rematch against the same Pats team on Sunday afternoon in the Queen City. Puck drop is slated for 4 p.m.
