PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders got back into the win column on Saturday night by downing the Spokane Chiefs 5-3 at the Art Hauser Centre.

The game is the first meeting between these teams since October 2018 when the Raiders won 8-2 at home. The win is also the first since Nov. 27 when PA defeated Medicine Hat 4-2 on the road.

“I was glad that we played with a lead,” said Raiders head coach Jeff Truitt. “We just kept building on things. The game wasn’t overly complicated for us, we wanted to keep things simple. I thought our guys did a real good job of that, being hard on pucks and getting some good scoring. Overall, I liked our work ethic again.”

Sloan Stanick led the way for PA in the game, scoring twice while Ryder Ritchie and Carson Latimer each had a goal and an assist. Landon Kosior also scored for the Raiders while Keaton Sorensen had two assists, and Evan Herman, Gabe Ludwig, and Terrell Goldsmith each had one assist.

For the Chiefs, Michael Cicek led the team with two points while Blake Swetlikoff and Kooper Gizowski were the other goal getters. Saige Weinstein, Grady Lane, Cade Hayes, Chase Bertholet each had assists in game for Spokane.

Max Hildebrand was kept busy in goal, stopping 30 shots for the win and to help the Raiders improve 11-19-2-0 on the campaign.

Cooper Michaluk made 31 saves for the Chiefs in the game where they now fall to 6-22-0-2 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

It didn’t take long for the game to have its first goal; unfortunately, it was for the wrong team. Cicek went for the wraparound and squeaked it past Hildebrand to put Spokane up 1-0 three minutes in.

Things changed midway through the first when the Raiders got on the board. Stanick was just coming out of the penalty box when he received a pass from Herman. He then skated in and fired it past the Chiefs netminder to tie it up.

Fast forward to the dying minutes of the period and the Raiders scored again. PA on the man advantage and Kosior let one go from the point that beat Michaluk short side to give the Green and Gold the lead after the first.

The score remained the same until mid way through the second period when the Chiefs managed to tie it. Swetlikoff cashed in on the powerplay to pull Spokane back to even.

Not too long later, one of the rookies on the Raiders came up big on the powerplay. Ludwig connected with Ritchie who scored his sixth of the campaign to put PA back up, 3-2 heading into the third.

The Chiefs yet again found away to tie it back up early in the frame when Gizowski scored on a 2-on-1 with Cicek.

But just like the previous period, the Raiders scored later in the frame to retake the lead. Sorensen got the puck in tight and spotted Latimer on the doorstep who simply tapped it into the open cage where PA went back up by one.

The Raiders added one more later in the game when Stanick scored his second of the night to seal the 5-3 win for the good guys.

Prince Albert will have a ten day break for Christmas before heading south to Saskatoon to take on the Blades on Dec. 27.
