What’s happening Friday at the Grey Cup Festival

The Grey Cup Festival continues Friday as Regina prepares for the CFL’s title game.

Once again, most of the events are at the REAL District campus.

Leading off the day is the Fan State of the League, when CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie will offer his take on the league. The free event is to run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., inside Riderville in the International Trade Centre.

The NexGen Energy Street Festival is to begin at 11 a.m., in Confederation Park. There’s no charge to take in the giant outdoor playground, which features the SaskPower Tube Slide, axe-throwing, relay games, a community stage and a large inflatable football game.

The SaskPower Family Fair is set to open at 11 a.m., in the AffinityPlex. The fair is free and includes inflatables, a youth football area, player-led drills, interactive skills competitions and other events.

The Digital Zone presented by SaskTel opens at 11 a.m., at the International Trade Centre. There’s no admission for the interactive technology event, which features a virtual field-goal kicking competition, a head-to-head video game challenge, photo opportunities and a virtual reality arcade.

Also at 11 a.m., Gainer’s Heartland is to open at the Ag-Ex Building. The free event is geared toward kids under the age of five and features photo booths, face-painting, hair-braiding, a soft play area, a private nursing area, and stuffies.

Musical acts will start performing on a community stage in Confederation Park. Those free concerts are set to run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Starting at 11 a.m., the esports Path to Glory tournament is to begin in the Brandt Centre. The free event will feature more than 200 professional players from across Canada facing off in a Super Smash Brothers Ultimate tournament.

The Queensbury Centre will be the site of the CFL Alumni Association Legends Luncheon, which is to start at 11 a.m. For $150, patrons can enjoy a meal, a silent auction, a live auction and a heads-or-tails fundraiser while mingling with CFL alumni.

Also at 11 a.m., kids between the ages of five and 12 can participate in Huddle in the Heartland, where they can learn the skills required to play football. The free event is to be held in the AffinityPlex.

Confederation Park is to be the site of the Calgary Grey Cup Committee pancake breakfast starting at 11 a.m. It’s free to attend.

Some of team party rooms are scheduled to open at noon in the International Trade Centre and will remain open all day. The Spirit of Edmonton is situated at the Conexus Arts Centre.

Touchdown Manitoba, which runs in the Co-operators Centre from noon to 5 p.m., features performers, cheer teams and mascots. Admission for those 19 and over is $33.50.

The CFL Players’ Association will offer its State of the Union address starting at 2:30 p.m., in the Queensbury Centre. Admission is free.

The CFLPA Players Headquarters, where fans can meet stars of the league, opens at 3 p.m. at the Fat Badger at 1852 Scarth St. It’s free to attend.

Weather permitting, the NexGen Energy Drone Show is to begin at 9 p.m. The best place to view the free show is Confederation Park.
