Warriors come from behind to steal win against Raiders

PRINCE ALBERT, SK – The powerplay for the Prince Albert Raiders stayed hot on Friday night scoring twice, but it just wasn’t hot enough as the Moose Jaw Warriors came away with a 3-2 win at the Art Hauser Centre.

The loss comes four days after toppling the Tri-City Americans 5-4 at home.

“We go up on a team in a tight game and you got to be able to play the right way,” said Raiders head coach Jeff Truitt. “We had needless turnovers and when we have opportunities to get pucks out, against a good team they’re going to find ways, and we got running around a bit and it winds-up in our net. Our powerplay came up with another big goal for us, I thought Hildebrand played a good game for us. I’m not totally disappointed in it, I’m just disappointed in about a minute and ten seconds.”

Alternate captain Landon Kosior and captain Nolan Allan were the two goal scores for the Raiders tonight. The defensive pair also each had assists, while Carson Latimer also tallied a helper.

Robert Baco, Riley Ginnell, and Jagger Firkus each lit the lamp for the Warriors while Lucas Brenton, Denton Mateychuk, Atley Calvert, Cosmo Wilson, and Cole Jordan each netted assists.

Max Hildebrand was between the pipes for the Raiders where he stopped 21 shots as PA now falls to 4-10-2-0.

Connor Ungar made 22 stops to help Moose Jaw improve to 9-5-0-0 on the year.

COMPLETE BOX SCORE

The score remained tied after the opening period, however, both teams got on the board.

The Raiders opened the scoring just over midway through the frame with the red hot powerplay. Allan connected with his d-partner Kosior where he fired it through the screen and past Ungar to put PA up.

Moose Jaw got it back less than five-minutes later when Baco scored from the slot to tip it up going into the second period.

The powerplay for the Raiders stayed hot in the middle frame where Allan netted his fourth of the year to put PA back on top 2-1.

Fast forward to the early stages of the third and the game got flipped on its head. The Warriors scored twice in a minute and six seconds with markers from both Ginnell and Firkus to give Moose Jaw the 3-2 lead.

Prince Albert pulled Hildebrand for the extra attacker with two minutes left to go but they couldn’t convert, as the Warriors escaped PA 3-2.

A quick turnaround for the green and gold where they’ll host the Everett Silvertips tomorrow night at the Art Hauser Centre.
