Mistawasis murder case committed for trial
The Crown’s evidence related to a homicide case at Mistawasis First Nation is strong enough for the case to be committed for trial.
That was the outcome of Friday’s preliminary hearing at Prince Albert Provincial Court for Roy Lasas. The 21-year-old is facing a charge of second-degree murder in the death of Troy Watson on Nov. 17, 2020.
The case will be tried at Court of Queen’s Bench by judge and jury, although no date has been set as of yet. That will be set during a pre-trial conference.
At the time of the incident, RCMP explained they had been called to a home on the First Nation to help EMS with an unconscious man. Watson was found outside where the paramedics pronounced him dead.
