Search is on for convicted sex offender involved in Amber Alert

Aug 9, 2022 | 1:57 PM

Police are still searching for Benjamin Martin Moore, the man accused of being on the run with two children and their mother who are the focus of an Amber Alert.

Court documents dating back more than a decade paint Moore as a pedophile who spent time in prison.

The Regina Police Service was not able to confirm Moore’s criminal record, but the Saskatchewan Provincial Court could.

A court official said Moore was sentenced in 2009 for possessing child pornography.

Two years later, when Moore was 39 years old, he was sentenced again for breaching his probation by accessing a computer, or another technological device.

In that same year, new reports said police in Regina warned the public about Moore being released into the community, adding he was at a high risk to reoffend.

Police also said Moore had a history of committing sexual offences against children and had a number of conditions upon his release, including returning to a community correctional facility every night.

The Amber Alert issued on Monday was the second in Saskatchewan in as many days.

On Sunday, an Amber Alert was issued in Regina for a missing two-year-old. That child was subsequently found safe and sound and a 36-year-old woman was arrested.

Just before 7:30 p.m. on Monday, this latest alert was issued on behalf of the Shaunavon RCMP for seven-year-old Luna Potts and eight-year-old Hunter Potts.

According to the alert, the children were believed to be with Moore, who may go by different names.

The mother of the children, 45-year-old Leah Potts, is also believed to be travelling with them.

The 50-year-old suspect is described as 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds with black hair.

Moore, the children and their mother may be travelling in a 2015 dark blue Chevy Equinox, with Alberta licence plate CGC 2492.

The alert also said they may have entered the United States.

Anyone who sees Moore, Luna, Hunter or Leah Potts or has information about their whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately or 1-877-762-6237.
