Final suspect arrested in Megan Gallagher death

Jul 27, 2022 | 3:42 PM

The last of four people has been arrested in the death of Megan Gallagher, who had close ties to Cumberland House.

John Wayne Sanderson, 44, was arrested in James Smith Cree Nation by officers from the Melfort RCMP detachment.

He was arrested on a charge of committing an indignity to human remains connected to Gallagher’s disappearance several years ago, but also had unrelated warrants.

He will appear by video in Melfort Provincial Court tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.

Sanderson is the fourth person charged after Gallagher disappeared in Saskatoon in 2020.

Jessica Sutherland, 42, was arrested near Onion Lake on June 4 following a tip from the public.

Roderick Sutherland, 44, was arrested near Prince Albert on June 1, also after a tip from the public.

The fourth person charged, Ernest Whitehead, 41, was the first person charged at the end of May 2022.

All four face the same charge.

Gallagher was last seen on video surveillance at a convenience store in Saskatoon in September 2020.

She has not been found but Saskatoon Police said in January 2021 that they were treating her disappearance as a homicide.
