Prince Albert RCMP nab second suspect in Saskatoon homicide

Jun 2, 2022 | 12:40 PM

One of the three people wanted for committing an indignity to human remains in Saskatoon was arrested by Prince Albert RCMP yesterday.

Police got a tip from the public and Roderick William Sutherland, 44, was taken into custody somewhere in the area near Prince Albert

Sutherland is charged with committing an indignity to human remains as part of a Saskatoon police homicide investigation into the disappearance of Megan Gallagher in late 2020.

He will have his first court appearance in Saskatoon tomorrow at 9 am.

Police are still looking for John Wayne Sanderson, 44, of James Smith First Nation near Melfort and Jessica Sutherland, 42, who, like Roderick, has no known address.

Both are wanted for the same charges as Sanderson.

A fourth person, Ernest Vernon Whitehead, 41, was arrested several days ago and had a first appearance in Saskatoon Provincial Court this morning.

He is in custody and will have a show cause hearing on June 6, also on charges of committing an indignity to human remains.

All the charges are in connection with the disappearance and death of Megan Gallagher, 30, in Saskatoon.

Gallagher was reported missing in Saskatoon and last seen on Sept. 20, 2020, but her phone was used the next day to call a taxi from a convenience store.

A recording of the call is available on the SPS Twitter and Facebok pages.

Police began investigating her case as a homicide in January 2021.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the two wanted persons or with information believed to be relevant to the investigation is asked to contact the Saskatoon Police Service at 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
