Bears pick up huge win over previously undefeated Fraser Valley to move up the Esso Cup standings
The Prince Albert Northern Bears put up six goals on a team that barely gets scored on to register their second consecutive win at the 2022 Esso Cup national female U18 AAA hockey tournament in Okotoks, Alta. The Bears defeated the Fraser Valley Rush from B.C. 6-5, as both teams are now tied at the tournament’s top spot with identical 2-1 records.
The Rush had only surrendered one goal in two games to begin their tournament, with a 4-1 win over les Remparts du Richelieu from Quebec 4-1, before shutting out the Notre Dame Hounds 2-0.
But the Bears were able to pile on goals like they have been able to all tournament. Sophia Zuck scored twice, while Claudia Lammers scored the game-winning goal in the third period for the Bears. Sasha Malenfant, Tristyn Endicott and Taylor Leitch all scored.
Bears goaltender Paige Fischer made 25 saves on 30 shots for her first victory of the tournament.
