“The price that we’re about to pay is surreal” – Gas prices hitting record numbers across Canada

Current gas prices continue to ramp up across all of Canada, with diesel gas seeing a large increase.

Gas prices jumped up on average 26 cents/litre in the country, while diesel went up 34 cents/litre.

Dan McTeague is the President for Canadians for Affordable Energy and says nobody could have envisioned this to come to reality.

“I think it’s beyond any expectations on the prices that we’re paying,” McTeague said.

“The price that we’re about to pay is surreal.”

Saskatoon’s current price stands at $1.58/litre, while Vancouver is up to a whopping $1.96/litre.

The rise in both regular and diesel gas within the last week has been jaw-dropping.

“It’s up 26 cents this week alone, and diesel is up 35 cents. It’s just not something we’ve ever experienced at any time in our path.”

McTeague says even if you don’t fill up using diesel, the rising prices should still concern you.

“It’s the fuel in which the world runs. The global economy would come to a grinding halt if we were to stop ships, planes, railways and trucks.”

McTeague says we as Canadians must start looking at producing more fuel or a carbon tax reduction.

“We have to consider both given the significant and dramatic increase which is going to impact people who can’t make ends meet.”

McTeague says one of the major factors in rising gas prices is due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and that prices could continue to move up as a result.
