Raiders look to get back into win column against tough Warrior squad

The Prince Albert Raiders are taking on the Moose Jaw Warriors at Mosaic Place in the Friendly City. With 41 points through 50 games, the Raiders are six points back of both seventh and eighth place in the WHL Eastern Conference playoff race. They do have four games in hand over the Swift Current Broncos, who are currently in the eighth spot.

Here’s how the Raiders and Warriors match up.

Head-to-head

The Warriors have had the better of the two sides this year, as they have a 4-1 record in the season series. The Raiders won the first meeting of the season 3-2 back on Oct. 13. The Warriors have since won the last four meetings; 4-1 on Oct. 15, 4-1 on Nov. 24, 3-1 on Feb. 11, and 3-2 on Feb. 19.

The Raiders are 19-28-2-1, 11^th in the WHL Eastern Conference, while the Warriors are fourth in the conference with a 30-18-3-2 record.

Recent form

The Raiders were on the road for four games in Alberta last week, winning the first two against the Medicine Hat Tigers 4-1 and 1-0 over the Calgary Hitmen. The Raiders then had a 2-1 lead over the Red Deer Rebels late, but fell 3-2 in regulation before a 5-2 defeat to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Warriors are coming off a 4-2 defeat on the road to the Saskatoon Blades on Feb. 27. Before then, the Warriors were 5-0-0-1 in their previous six games.

Moves like Jagger

Jagger Firkus leads the Warriors in scoring with 30 goals and 67 points. Seven of those points (two goals, five assists) have come in the five matchups against the Raiders so far this year which also leads the team.

Raiders captain Reece Vitelli has two goals and four points in five games against the Warriors to lead the Raiders in that regard. Vitelli is one point back of the team lead in points as Ozzy Wiesblatt (36 points) has the team lead. Evan Herman has the Raiders’ team lead in goals with 19.

Goaltending duel

The Raiders haven’t been able to get many pucks past Carl Tetachuk this year, as he has a .943 save percentage, 1.62 goals against average, and a 4-1 record against the Raiders, playing all the games in the season series this year.

Tikhon Chaika has a .922 save percentage and 2.39 goals-against average in two appearances against the Warriors.
