P.A. woman makes semis of international tattoo magazine contest

Mar 4, 2022 | 3:00 PM

A Prince Albert woman is one step closer to being the next cover model for an international magazine.

Melanie Hicks, a TikTok influencer and teacher, has officially made the semi-finals of Inked Magazine’s annual contest.

The second to last round features 64 women, split into four groups of 16 with the top four in each making it to the finals.

Hicks told paNOW making it this far in a contest that was out of her comfort zone has been shocking, to say the least.

“I’m starting to really enjoy this, putting myself out there for everybody and just sharing my message with everyone.”

Along with being on the magazine’s cover, the winner will get $25,000.

If she ultimately wins, Hicks plans on taking a trip with her daughter.

A big part of entering was also her daughter as Hicks explained she wanted to show her that tattoos can be a great art form.

“She’s very young so I don’t think it’s too important for her right now, but I’m excited to see what this could do for her in her future and the confidence it could give her.”

As of Friday afternoon, Hicks was on pace to make the final round.

Voting ends on March 10, 2022.

“I think the people who want to see me on the cover are really going out of their way to make this possible for me,” Hicks added.

Meanwhile, Hicks wasn’t the only Saskatchewan woman to enter as Sasha Janzen, from Porcupine Plain, just missed out on the semis and P.A.’s Robin Poliszuk was eliminated earlier in the competition.
