Fifteen new cases of COVID in northern zones, 293 reported across the province

The province is reporting another 293 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, including 159 cases among partially or fully vaccinated individuals.

Fifty-six cases are among individuals under the age of 11.

Fifteen new cases are located in northern zones of the province; the Far North West (one), Far North East (three), North West (four), North Central (three), and North East (four).

Four new deaths were reported today bringing the provincial total to 951.

There are now 1,645 cases considered active in the province; a 1,107 case jump from two weeks ago.

One-half (50.9 per cent) of new cases are individuals between the ages of 20 and 39.

More than one-half (55.9 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged five years and older) were fully vaccinated.

This brings the provincial total to 83,855 cases confirmed since the pandemic began, 81,259 cases are considered recovered.

As of Dec. 29, a total of 83 individuals are hospitalized with 15 being treated in the ICU. Of the 83 patients, 47 (56.6 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 28, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) has reported 12 new cases in NITHA communities. Of the new cases, five (42 per cent) were not vaccinated; three (25 per cent) were partially vaccinated; and four (33 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 22 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North West, three, and Far North East, 19. There have been 6,898 cases (99 per cent) that have recovered, and one person is currently hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
