Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club Swimmers Continue to Excel

Twenty swimmers from the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club participated in the Lasers short course swim meet Dec. 4-5.

Sharks swimmers achieved fantastic results in the competition held in Saskatoon, including a huge number of personal best times.

In addition, Sharks swimmers achieved “AA” times and qualified to the Manitoba-Saskatchewan swimming championship, which will be held in Winnipeg in March 2022.

The results show a massive development in the performance level of Shark swimmers competing against other top swimmers from different clubs.

Soren Hansen achieved “AA” times for the first time during this season, increasing the size of the Sharks team for Man-Sask in March to seven swimmers. As well, Clara Gelhorn achieved AA time in the 400-metre freestyle for 12-year-old girls. Abigail Anderson-Woodsworth and Patience Sonderberg-Tilden achieved their first “A” time standard and qualified to the junior provincial championship, which will be held in Moose Jaw in March 2022. Rebecca Fines achieved her first para-swimming provincial qualifying times in 50- and 100-metre freestyle. Ali Diehl added two more qualifying time in 50- and 100-metre freestyle.

Here are highlights from the swim meet:

Myla M. had personal best times in the 50 &100, and 200-metre butterfly, 200-metre individual medley and 400-metre freestyle. She achieved an “AA” time in the 100-metre freestyle and is very close in the 200- and 400-metre freestyle and 50-metre butterly.

Soren Hansen achieved the “AA” time standard in 50- and 100-metre backstroke for 13&14 years old, as well as for the 50-metre freestyle. He placed first in the 50- and 100-metre backstroke and had personal best times in all his races.

Camryn Cooling placed first in 400-metre freestyle, second in 400-metre individual medley and fourth in the 200-metre backstroke.

Sophie Bilodeau came third in the 100-metre breaststroke and fourth in 50-metre breaststroke.

Ali Diehl added two more qualifying para-swimming provincial time standards in 50- and 100-metre freestyle. She also smashed her best personal time in the 200-metre breaststroke by 13 seconds.

Clara Gelhorn achieved “AA” time in the 400-metre freestyle and placed first in the 200- metre butterfly. She had personal best times in all her races.

Ava Helgason was sixth in 200-metre backstroke and seventh in the 50-metre butterfly.

Natasha Coertze achieved “A” times in the 50- and 100-metre freestyle, 50-metre butterfly and 400-metre individual medley.

Abigail Anderson-Woodsworth achieved her first “A” time standards in the 50= and 200-metre backstroke and qualified for the junior provincials.

Dani Boisson added one more “A” time in 100-metre breaststroke and qualified to the junior provincial championship.

Patience Soderberg-Tilden swam personal best times in all her races. She also achieved her first “A” time standards in 50- 100-metre freestyle and qualified to the junior provincial championship.

Isla Hansen swam personal best times in 50-metre breaststroke, 100-metre freestyle and 200-metre backstroke.

Rebecca Fines achieved her first para-swimming junior provincial qualifying times in 50 and 100-metre freestyle. She qualified for the Manitoba-Saskatchewan provincial championship. She had personal best time in all of her races.

Luthar Wiberg came third in the 200-metre individual medley and fourth in the 50-metre backstroke.

Sophie MacDonald set personal best times in all of her races..

Avery MacDonald had new personal best times in 50 and 100=metre breaststroke.

Selena Markos swam personal best times in 100-metre freestyle and 50-metre backstroke.

Aberdeen Roos participated in a swim meet for the first time and had a fantastic performance in all of her races. She is close to “A” times in 50-metre backstroke and 100-metre freestyle.

Iro Liviakis was also participating in her first meet. She had fantastic performances in all her races.

“The meet was a huge success for all our swimmers,” said head coach Dr. Hazem Hussein, “absolutely shredding their best personal times and achieving three “AA” times and more than 17 “A” times. Last but not least, a big shout out to Miss Rebecca. She just achieved the para-swimming provincial time standard in two races. Also, for Miss Abigail and Miss Patience for qualifying to the junior provincial championship for the first time ever.”

The club is pleased with the swimmers’ results and performances. The Prince Albert Sharks offer a variety of programs to meet kids’ potentials and ambitions not only on the competitive level but also on the non-competitive level.
