Bears sweep Gold Wings, Mintos drop two on road swing
The Prince Albert Northern Bears completed their clean sweep over the Weyburn Gold Wings over the weekend at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Bears surrendered just one goal against throughout the weekend, as they won 5-1 on Sunday after a 4-0 victory on Saturday night.
Just 40 seconds into Sunday’s rematch, Paisley Arntsen scored on a wraparound to give the Gold Wings their only lead of the two games. That lead would stand until the 17:15 mark of the first when Julia Cey would tie the game on a rebound goal on the power play. Then with 56 seconds left in the frame, Erin Kirkland’s shot from the slot, also on the power play, would give the Bears a 2-1 advantage after the first period.
Sasha Malenfant would add another goal just 28 seconds into the second period before Kirkland got her second of the game, an empty netter in the game’s final minute. Claudia Lammers wouldn’t let the empty net goal be the last one, as she flew down the ice and tucked in a forehand deke with 8.7 seconds left in the game.
