Raiders enter game against strong Oil Kings’ team on a roll
After a slow start to the season full of new faces and roster moves, the Prince Albert Raiders seem to have found their footing as they take on the Edmonton Oil Kings (9-3-1) Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
After starting the year 2-7, the Raiders have gone 3-0-0-1 after getting three points out of the home-and-home series against Brandon to end October, and an impressive two-game sweep over the Saskatoon Blades. They outscored the Blades 10-3 on the weekend. Sloan Stanick had a hat trick and an assist to register his first points as a Raider in the Saturday contest, while Tyson Laventure scored twice and added an assist.
Raiders head coach Marc Habscheid said the recent success has come from his team playing as a unit and getting some big-time performances from goaltender Carter Serhyenko. In his last three starts, Carter Serhyenko has won all of them and surrendered just four goals on 72 total shots for a 0.974 save percentage in that span.
“Playing as a team, that’s the big thing. You can have all the individuals you want, but if you’re not playing as a team, nothing works,” Habscheid said. “The other thing is we’re getting a save, and that makes all the difference in the world. Guys feel more confident in front, and that certainly helps when you’re goaltender’s playing.”
