Council elected for Resort Village of Elk Ridge

The Resort Village of Elk Ridge has taken one more step to becoming official following Saturday’s council election.

Ryan Danberg, Trudy Engel, Ross Hewett and Margaret Eleanor Smith – Windsor were elected to the four councillor seats. A total of 111 ballots were cast with two being rejected.

Garry McKay was acclaimed Mayor last month after running unopposed.

In June, the Ministry of Government Relations officially approved the Hamlet’s application to be recognized as a Resort Village, however there were still a number of conditions attached including the need to have a council in place by Dec. 31, as well as the hiring of administrative staff.

Presuming all other conditions are met, the Resort Village status takes effect Jan. 1. Until then, the Hamlet remains governed by the District of Lakeland.
