Aug 11, 2021 | 11:32 AM

This story is being updated:

Prince Albert RCMP are on the hunt for two armed suspects they say fled from police this morning, who may be travelling in the rural area north of Prince Albert.

Police said they were involved in “an ongoing situation on Sturgeon Lake First Nation.”

Officers are making patrols to locate them and have asked residents to be aware.

Earlier Wednesday police said the suspects abandoned the vehicle they were driving and were on foot and may be looking for a new mode of transportation. Police initially asked residents in the RM of P.A. as well as Sturgeon Lake to aware, although it is the RM of Buckland which is north of the city. It was not immediately clear if the suspects could also be travelling in the RM of P.A.

paNOW has sought clarification.

In a further update early Wednesday afternoon, police said a vehicle related to this investigation may be traveling in the rural area north of Prince Albert and moving towards the city of Prince Albert. Police do not have a specific roadway to provide at this time. They encouraged the public to be vigilant in this and the surrounding areas.

RCMP said officers along with additional RCMP resources are on scene on Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

No description of the two individuals being sought is available at this time.

There will be an increased police presence in the community for an undetermined amount of time. Police are asking members of the public to avoid the area.

An update will be provided as soon as more information is available.

If you see anything of suspicion, call 911 as soon as possible.
