Pattison Media announces 2021 Prairie Equity Scholarship competition

Broadcast and digital media students who are part of under-represented groups can apply for a scholarship sponsored by Pattison Media, formerly the Jim Pattison Broadcast Group.

The 2021 Prairie Equity Scholarship was created in 2009 to address the shortage of team members from four groups: Indigenous Peoples, Persons with Disabilities, Members of Visible Minorities, and Women. By supporting career development in these groups, Pattison Media believes the industry will access an untapped pool of potentially talented employees, encourage diverse viewpoints and backgrounds, enhance relationships with local communities and broaden the advertiser and audience base.

“Many of our past scholarship winners have used their awards as a stepping stone to their new careers. One is a video journalist at CTV Winnipeg. Another worked as a radio and print reporter before becoming the managing editor at a communications company. Another worked as an editor and writer for the Alberta government and a couple have even worked for Pattison Media,” said Dave Sherwood, scholarship committee chair. “Wherever they end up, we’re happy to be part of their successful journey.”

Residents of Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba who are attending or plan to attend a recognized broadcast or digital media program at a post-secondary institution in one of those provinces in 2021 are eligible to apply for two $2,000 awards. Applicants can access a scholarship information and application package at the websites of the Prairie divisions of Pattison Media including Prince Albert, Melfort, La Ronge, Meadow Lake and North Battleford, or through the programs at the post-secondary institutions.
