Car theft suspects enter not guilty pleas, await trial

The events that led to and occurred during a stabbing and car theft last December on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation will be discussed in greater detail at a trial later this summer.

The two accused, Wesley Naytowhow and Ashley Badger, have entered not guilty pleas to a handful of charges that include robbery, break and enter, and aggravated assault.

The case was most recently spoken to Monday afternoon at Prince Albert Provincial Court. A trial date was set for Aug. 9.

According to information provided by police at the time of the Dec. 17 incident, two people, a man and a woman, drove to a home in a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

The man entered the home and assaulted the victim while the woman waited in the vehicle. After the assault, the man then stole the victim’s vehicle—a white Chevrolet Impala with Saskatchewan plate 568 LNW—and fled the scene. The female followed in the Monte Carlo.

The victim was taken to Saskatoon hospital by air ambulance for serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and later released.

Nayotowhow was arrested three days later near Little Red First Nation, and Badger was located by police on Jan. 14 during a traffic stop on highway 2 north.
