Santa makes early visit to patients at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital

Dec 18, 2020 | 12:12 PM

Santa showed up before his big delivery day to bring special cheer to the young patients at the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital (JPCH) in Saskatoon.

Children and their families visited with Father Christmas in the Child Life Zone yesterday where they received holiday gifts and special keepsake photos, thanks to a donation from Graham Construction.

Those who were unable to leave their rooms were also visited by Santa.

“This year it is more important than ever to bring normalcy to children in hospital. Santa coming is so exciting as it gives families a chance to create memories and take a break from hospitalization. We are so fortunate to give the opportunity for play and magic during the holidays to all the patients of JPCH,” Dominique Rust, the hospital’s child life program manager, said.

The visit was one of several events scheduled for the hospital foundation’s Project Holiday Joy. This week the children decorated gingerbread houses, and made holiday crafts. This weekend, kids will attend the Holiday Market with their well-earned ‘Sunshine Bucks’ which they received for completing treatments, having a positive attitude and more. The Sunshine Bucks can be cashed toward buying a gift for a family member at the market.

“Project Holiday Joy gives Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation the opportunity to ensure that kids and families are not forgotten throughout the holidays. This year may be different than those in the past, however, everyone needs a bit of cheer and hope. This season will still bring excitement for children as they take part in the many activities, including a visit from Santa. The best presents for children and families that are hospital-bound are not those wrapped in paper, they are simple gestures of love. Thanks to our many donors, that is what we are bringing to the kids this year,” Brynn Boback-Lake, the president and CEO of the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation, said.

Sponsors of Project Holiday Joy include Viterra, Canpotex, CAA Saskatchewan and Jeep Saskatchewan.
