‘This is getting quite old’: judge calls for action in P.A. triple homicide case

Dec 17, 2020 | 5:00 PM

As 2020 draws to a close, Prince Albert’s most violent story of the year is no closer to a resolution and both a judge and a Crown lawyer are expressing frustrations over the lack of progression.

Nathaniel Carrier, 29, is charged with three counts of first-degree murder, and one count of attempted murder, in connection to an incident last March. Carrier’s parents and young son were found dead at a property on MacArthur Drive. Carrier’s young daughter was also found there and rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries. She underwent eight surgeries before recovering and returning to Prince Albert in May.

Thursday’s hearing marked the ninth time the case has been spoken to in court, and Carrier has yet to enter a plea or even make an appearance by video. Prior to asking for the case to be adjourned to Jan. 13, Carrier’s lawyer Terra Lennox-Zepp explained there has been a lot of work on the “complicated” file behind the scenes, and added there have been some “external issues” but offered no further details.

“This is getting quite old, with nothing happening,” Judge Felicia Daunt replied.

Crown lawyer Doug Howell stated the prosecution’s office has been pressing to have pre-trial dates set. Judge Daunt told Lennox-Zepp she wanted a pre-trial hearing date to be set at the January hearing date.

A member of the victims’ family was present in court for the hearing, and expressed to paNOW afterwards his frustration with another delay.
