Local residents plan unique fundraiser for P.A. SPCA

A pair of Prince Albert residents are preparing to help out their local SPCA with a COVID-19 friendly fundraiser.

Lindy Adams and her friend Erin Dawne are going to do something special for the animals at the SPCA. On Saturday, Dec. 12 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. they will drive around collecting donations with the main goal being to fill up the Jeep.

“We might have to do a couple trips actually,” Adams said. “The goal was just to fill up one but if we could do multiple that would be great.”

Adams said she got the idea from seeing someone in Saskatoon do a similar fundraiser where they filled the box of a truck for a local rescue organization.

The SPCA provided them with a wish list of things they need and for those who would like to donate to the cause can phone the SPCA and tell them their address.

“Quite a few people have commented on the post saying they were going to get some stuff together and tagged some other people to help get some items,” Adams said.

The post shared on Adams and the SPCA’s Facebook page has been shared over 300 times combined.

Adams explained she is doing this fundraiser because of her love for animals.

“I’m always donating to rescues and following all the rescue pages and trying to help out as much as I can,” she explained.

The SPCA’s wish list includes kitten food, dog and cat toys, bones for dogs, cat towers, heating pads, dog and cat beds, and monetary donations.

SPCA Manager Ashlee Bober said the donations will help a lot going into the new year.

“It’s a big help to us and such a fantastic way of getting the community together in a way of donating especially during COVID,” Bober said.

She added all of the COVID-19 protocols will be in place and they will ensure social distancing when they pick up the donations.

“It’s just a wonderful way and such a cool idea of doing it here for the shelter so it’s quite exciting,” Bober said.
