Prince Albert NDP candidates ready for election campaign

The 2020 provincial election campaign is officially underway after the dropping of the writ at the Legislative Assembly, early on Tuesday.

Incumbent NDP MLA for Prince Albert Northcote, Nicole Rancourt told paNOW she is looking forward to getting things going. She faces a challenge from first time provincial candidate Alana Ross.

“I’m excited to be out on the doorsteps, like I have been the last few weeks and meeting up with constituents,” Rancourt said. “I think people are ready for a change, so it has been a real exciting time for us.

“The priority is going to constituents and listening to what their concerns are and what kind of government they want to see represent them.”

She figured the COVID pandemic has made people more interested than ever in provincial politics.

“Some people feel that this government is not looking out for their best interest and not making them a priority,” Rancourt explained. “People are thinking that this might be a good time to make some real changes so their families are put first.”

Meanwhile, Troy Parenteau will be challenging Joe Hargrave in Prince Albert Carlton and is positive leading up to next month’s election.

“I’m feeling great, I have been on the doorsteps since I was nominated last year talking to voters, and people are positive,” Parenteau said. “They’re upset with the priorities of the Sask. Party, especially education and health care. People feel like they’ve been left behind.”

The Saskatchewan NDP platform is big on investment in education, health care, and their Saskatchewan workers first promise when it comes to building projects.

“The money for health care and education is there. I think the Sask. Party has shown us they have made priorities of giving to their friends and wealthy donors,” Parenteau said. “A Sask. NDP government would make sure that health care and education is covered.

“Our main message is about putting people first, properly funding health care, education, and making sure everyday people can make ends meet.”

Other NDP candidates in the Prince Albert area include Lyle Whitefish for Sask. Rivers, Lon Borgerson for Batoche, and Trina Miller for Rosthern-Shellbrook.

Voters will take to the polls on Monday, October 26.
