With the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly Tuesday, and the official dropping of the writ, the 2020 provincial election campaign has officially received the green light, and the Prince Albert Sask. Party candidates appear ready.

Prince Albert Carlton Incumbent Joe Hargrave is seeking a second term and expressed to paNOW he’s very happy to get the election campaign officially underway.

“We’ve been out door knocking and everybody has been talking about it but you know when the writ drops, the excitement really starts to build,” he said.

Hargrave acknowledged one of the biggest challenges in this campaign is COVID-19, but explained he and his staff of volunteers have been taking extra precautions including carrying lots of hand sanitizer, wearing masks and after ringing the door bells, moving back six to eight feet.

“The challenge is talking through the mask but it’s there and people are really respectful of that,” he said.

Alana Ross is challenging Nicole Rancourt in Prince Albert Northcote. The first time Sask. Party candidate has also been out for weeks door knocking, but admitted to paNOW the reality of the election has now set in.

“It is exciting. I think my heart rate was a little elevated this morning because it’s actually real now,” she said.

Ross, who has 30 years experience in health care sector, including 20 years as a nurse, aspires to win back the riding back for the Sask. Party, but acknowledged she could be in store for a tough fight.

‘I’ve met some wonderful people; I’ve heard a lot of positive comments; I’ve heard some concerns that people have,” she said. “It’s going to be hard work but I’m looking forward to a positive outcome.”

When asked to elaborate on the key issues she is talking with people about, Ross said she has had a lot of questions about health care. She added there’s also been a lot of positive energy surrounding the new Victoria Hospital, and the positive economic spinoffs it will bring.

The other Sask. Party candidates in the Prince Albert area include Nadine Wilson (Sask Rivers), Delbert Kirsch (Batoche), and Scott Moe (Rosthern-Shellbrook).

Election day for Saskatchewan’s 29th General Election is on Monday, October 26.
