Sask KidSport challenges community in fundraiser

UPDATE: The Saskatchewan KidSport foundation has reported the scissor lift fundraiser on Thursday reached their goal of $10,000.

The Saskatchewan KidSport foundation is hosting a high altitude fundraiser in Prince Albert today.

For the second year in a row, the event is being held at Dr Java’s Coffee House and store owner Brandy Mogg is happy to be hosting the event once more.

“We’re really excited to get to participate,” Mogg said. “It is a super important foundation that gives back to kids in our community.”

Starting at 9 a.m. Dwight Bergstrom, a volunteer for KidSport in P.A. was hoisted up on a scissor lift and will remain high in the sky until 5 p.m.

“We are taking pledges [all day] and if we raise $4,000 then I have the pleasure of spending the night on the scissor lift,” Bergstrom told paNOW. “It’s a great fundraiser and a nice public awareness event for KidSport as well.”

The coffee house will also be providing an incentive for people to come and donate.

“We are providing fifty per cent off any beverage, whether they want a specialty beverage or a coffee,” Mogg explained. “Hopefully, this will bring in a few more people and a few more donations for them as well.”

KidSport has big goals for the future of these fundraisers.

“Last year we raised $5,500, so we are hoping we will do all of that,” Bergstrom said. “Every year it has been growing a bit. I would like to get to the point where we raise $10,000 a year.

“There is a huge need in P.A. to support kids who otherwise would not be in sport,” Bergstrom noted, adding more help is needed every year to keep kids active in sports in Prince Albert.

“We get more applications every year, we have funded about 325 kids in a given year at an average of about $240 per child,” Bergstrom said. “One hundred per cent of what we raise goes to KidSport here in P.A. there is no admin costs or other expenses. It goes right back into the community.”

Dr Java’s Coffee House is located on 15th St E.
