Prince Albert’s Cliff Selander made an impressive charge in the final round of the Golf Saskatchewan Senior Open at Deer Park Municipal GC in Yorkton, but it wasn’t enough to catch Weyburn’s Rick Hallberg for first place.

After two rounds, Hallberg had a commanding lead on the field, with Selander sitting in fifth place 12 strokes back. On Friday, Hallberg stumbled while Selander posted the second lowest round of anybody in the whole tournament, trailing only Hallberg’s round two 68.

Selander went three under with a 69 in his final round, thanks to a scorching back nine. On the front nine, he had seven pars, a birdie, and a bogey for an even 36. On the back nine, he dropped three birdies and six pars to go six under.

Paired with Hallberg’s six-over 78, Selander closed the 12 stroke gap to just three, finishing in second place overall.

On the women’s side, Yorkton’s Tammy Bezaire shot a final round 79 to finish in first place, five strokes up on Lloydminster’s Jo-Anne Schiller.

Prince Albert’s Lorna Gilbert and Sue Snell finished ninth and eleventh, respectively.
