P.A. library preparing to make physical collection available again

The John M. Cuelenaere Public Library is ready to offer curbside pickup as it reopens to the public.

Starting Aug. 10 patrons will have the option of being able to reserve items and then come to pick them up.

“We’ve got staff on layoff right now, we’re going to recall some of them and start doing a curb service,” Alex Jurio, director of library services, said.

Regional libraries in the area started offering curbside services a little while back before reopening to the public. Jurio explained P.A.’s library was not able to do so as their physical materials were in storage as crews worked to do renovations on the library building.

He added when it comes to the overall logistics of curbside service, they have a rough idea of how it will work.

“Generally, the collection will be available for people to place holds on. When the hold comes available people will be notified and they can contact the library to arrange a pickup time,” he said.

Overall Jurio said they are happy to be able to offer physical books to the public again. He said they had been getting requests from the public about offering the service.

While the library’s physical collection has been unavailable to the public, Jurio said they have been working to make sure people are able to access digital services which have been available.

“We’ve been helping people get cards via social media to access those services,” he said.

Jurio said in regards to the building reopening, they are looking at possibly doing so around Labour Day. However, he stressed there is no firm timeline.
