Danny Klughart was able to defend one of his provincial titles this week at the Legends Golf Club in Warman and was one hole away from successfully defending the other.

Klughart won his second straight Mid-Amateur Men’s Championship on Thursday with one of the best rounds in the best two decades at this tournament. Klughart shot a 10-under-par 62 to storm in front of the field and dominate the final day. Klughart ended the Mid-Amateurs at 11-under-par, seven strokes better than runner-up Scott Thompson from North Battleford.

That Thursday finish also propped Klughart to the top of the 109th Saskatchewan Amateur Men’s Championships, being tied for first place with Saskatoon’s Ty Campbell heading into the finals on Friday.

Klughart had a one-stroke lead on Campbell heading into the very last hole and finished with a par and ended the tournament at -10. Campbell managed to actually eagle the hole, his only eagle of the four-round tournament, to outright win the championship at 11-under-par.

Klughart did have a five-stroke lead after the front nine, but found some trouble on the 15th hole. He
double-bogeyed it, and followed that up with consecutive bogeys on the 16th and 17th holes.

Thompson finished in third place at five-under-par.
