Camp-Easy program reopens across province, new to Meadow Lake Provincial Park

Saskatchewan Parks Camp-Easy program is officially open and while the program has been operating in the province for a number for years ,the program is new to Meadow Lake Provincial Park as of last year. The program offers a stand alone yurt for those who want a camping experience without the preparation.

Park manager, Trevor Finlay told meadowlakeNOW the park typically offers two yurts fully equipped with basic camping needs including bunks for sleeping, a barbeque and other camping essentials. Campers are required to bring their own food, bedding, dishes and cutlery.

“There are various levels of Camp-Easy,” Finlay said. “In some of the provinces parks there are tents you can rent on a nightly basis, basic yurts and even high-end yurts that come with beds, it’s quite a unique program.”

Meadow Lake Provincial Park offers two yurts however, one yurt at Murray Doell campground will not be open this year, the other is available at Greig Lake campground.

“The Yurts were fairly busy last year, but this year with COVID-19 our yurts have been closed as of now,” he said. “Some yurts will be opening in the province July 15, our yurt at Murray Doell will not be open this year but the Greig Lake will be open towards the end of July.”

Finlay mentioned the yurt wall at the Greig Lake site had been ripped by a bear but says camping in Meadow Lake Provincial Park is as safe as parking in a tent. Makwa Provincial Park does not have Camp-Easy program.

According to Tourism Saskatchewan website, Camp-Easy sites opened for reservations on July 9 and will open for the season on July 16. There will be enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols to ensure a safe experience for visitors.

To limit travel between provinces, camping in provincial parks will be restricted to Saskatchewan residents until further notice. Out of province users will not be denied access to privately operated businesses in Saskatchewan provincial parks.

Yurts in Meadow Lake Provincial Park start at $65 per night. Additional information on Camp-Easy accommodations across the province can be found here. What you should bring before heading out can be found here.
